The Outdoor Health Forum (OHF) was formed in 2005 with the signing of the Health Concordat (2005) by the Countryside Agency, English Nature, Forestry Commission England, Sport England and the Association of National Park Authorities. 120 other organisations also showed their support.
OHF represents all major environmental organisations that share the belief that the natural environment is a major contributor to health. Evidence points to significant health benefits when people are connected to the natural environment in dealing with issues such as obesity and health inequalities.
We encourage and motivate people, especially children and those socially excluded, to use the natural environment in both rural and urban areas for health and wellbeing; or simply for enjoyment.
Our vision Our vision is that everybody, regardleess of age, gender, race or ability, is informed about opportunities and confident in using the outdoors.
This is underpinned by:
- organisations in the Forum with the capacity to develop local initiatives to promote healthy living
- health professionals understand and support the outdoors as an integral part of their work in improving public health and well-being
